Click for full pictureName - John Charles Vaughan
Position - Coachman / Stud Groom
Dates of employment - late 19th / early 20th c.

Born in Bassaleg c.1866, Vaughan was the stud groom for Lord Tredegar's private horses.
Courtenay Morgan began to go blind towards the end of his life, but refused to give up the country pastimes, particularly riding. So, Vaughan would take a horse and he and Courtenay would go riding, with Vaughan leading the way.
Every Christmas, he would get the Still Room Maids to ice his Christmas cake for him, and in return would give them a bottle of his rhubarb wine. He would not say how he made it, but said it 'really was special'.
