As the stickman, Charles Thomas' main duty was to provide wood for the fires inside Tredegar House. He was Brother-In-Law to Amy Jones, a housemaid, and great uncle (by marriage) to Lillian Clark (Housemaid 1913-1915).
Charles and his wife were murdered in their beds by William Butler, a local ne'er-do-well, who was later hanged in Usk Jail. They were reputed to have money stashed away under their mattress.
