The
King's Room
When
Tredegar House was first built, thios room was designed as the bedroom
of the Lady of the house. Later on, it was used as a guest room for
family relatives. It is probable that it was named the King's Room after
a man called King Gould, who stayed at the house frequently in the early
19th century. In the early 20th century, the room was the bedroom of
Evan Morgan, the last member of the family to actually live in the house.
The room is now depicted as an interior from the 1930s and 40s, when
Evan had his heyday. It is said that in an alcove behind the wardrobe,
Evan had a black magic altar. One
of his great friends was the occultist Aleister Crowley, who regularly
visited the house, and held seances and rituals in The Kings Room. Most
of the furnishings date from the late 18th century, and all have a very
oriental fell about them, which was very fashinable in the 1930s and
40s. The bed was made in 1999 by The Friends
Of Tredegar House Working Party.
